Overview

 

The Virgin Atlantic/GTMC Fares and Ticketing courses have been developed by some of the travel industry's top course writers. The result is a fresh contemporary approach and a thoroughness for which Virgin is famous. The objective is to provide training programmes leading to valuable qualifications that demonstrate the holders professional competence and which improve the promotion and employment prospects of the student. Students can now study each level by distance learning. CTH provides excellent support, both in terms of materials and contact with a highly experienced trainer who will support the student through their learning.

 

Students can now study the Virgin Atlantic/GTMC Fares and Ticketing Level 1 and Level 2 through distance learning. Find out how to apply, how much it costs and what is included below. 

 

Fares and Ticketing Level 1


This introduces you to the world of the travel industry.

By using extracts from selected industry publications, you will learn how to create, price and document various itineraries, according to the customers requirements.
 
At the end of the course you will be able to:
  • Define IATA geographical areas and Global Routing Indicators
  • Interpret various airline codes
  • Identify differing fare types and their characteristics
  • Select the lowest applicable fare for point to point itineraries with reference to fare rules
  • Calculate fares applying the fundamental principles of the mileage system
  • Construct fares using NUCs and the IATA Rates of Exchange for a range of currencies
  • Identify all automated tickets, from etickets to ATBs and OPTAT/TAT and interpret all relevant information
  • Interpret all MPDs/MCOs

There is a final assessment of a 2.5 hour examination. In preparation, both of the final review papers may be used as mock assessemnts.

 

Cost £295.00

 

The cost includes the Study Manual which comprises of 4 Modules, with Exercises and Reviews at the end of each Module. Extra Reviews can be requested which will be marked and returned with full feedback. Apart from the four extra Reviews, eight emails of communication may be sent if required. Replies will be within 72 hours, Monday to Friday inclusive. Contact CTH when you are ready for your exam. The exam is included in the cost, and any resit exam will be £18.00.

 

 

Fares and Ticketing Level 2


This has been designed to give you a thorough understanding of fare construction principles, building on the Level 1 knowledge with step by step stages of new principles of fare construction, which enables you to calculate and recognise more complex fares 


At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Construct fares for multi-sector journeys, applying the mileage system, higher intermediate points and minimum fare checks
  • Apply add-ons to construct unpublished fares

  • Calculate fares for journeys with surface sectors

  • Calculate fares for journeys involving side trips

  • Assess fares for journeys involving different classes of service

  • Construct special fares for multi sector journeys with and without surface sectors

  • Complete automated fare calculation areas in detail

There is a final assessment of a three hour examination. In preparation, both of the final review papers may be used as mock assessemnts.

 

Cost £325.00

 

The cost includes the Study Manual which comprises of five Modules, with Exercises and Reviews at the end of each Module. Extra Reviews can be requested which will be marked and returned with full feedback. Apart from the five extra Reviews, 10 emails of communication may be sent if required. Note: When studying Level 2, a Level 1 must first be completed. If the Level 1 studied is of another company other than VA/GTMC Level 1, please send, (by e-mail, fax or post), a copy of your Level 1 certificate when applying for the course. Please clearly state your name and why you are writing so we can make sure your Level 1 certificate is associated with your Self Study application.
