University access for CTH students
CTH students have gained entry onto
the second and third year of university hospitality
and tourism programmes and links exist with a number
of universities for students who are interested in
enhancing their qualifications. These universities
have excellent tourism and/or hospitality departments
and offer CTH students the opportunity to secure a
successful future in these industries. CTH recommends
the universities found below.
Normally, universities will assess
each individual student who has achieved a CTH Diploma
or Advanced Diploma on their individual merits and
experience. Consistent with CTH requirements, students
must have successfully completed Secondary or High
School education. The universities usually require
applicants to have a credit profile in order to demonstrate
they have the capability to progress to the Second
or Final year of a Degree course as appropriate. In
all cases, students will need an IELTS of 6.0 or equivalent.

Hospitality and Tourism
Bournemouth University
Bournemouth University is rated 2nd for Tourism
and Hospitality by The Guardian, October 2005
and is voted 'joint best' for its Tourism programmes
by Heads of Schools in September 2006 (The Sunday
Times). It is placed 69th in the Times Top Universities
2007 League Table (June 2006). Holders of a
CTH Advanced Diploma qualification have gained
entry onto the final year of Bournemouth University's
Hospitality and Tourism Degree programmes. Bournemouth
University is pleased to review applications
from CTH students who have achieved a credit
profile and who have attained IELTS 6.0 (Academic)
or equivalent, for progression onto their BA
(Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism
Management Top-Up Degree. Bournemouth's Top-Up
course is designed specifically for students
joining the final year of the degree and this
course can also be studied at West London College.

Thames Valley University
TVU represented the UK in the finals of the
'European Hotel School of the Year' competition
and they are previous winners of the Hospitality
Partnership Award for their contribution. Students
can progress onto the second or final year of
the BA (Hons) in Hospitality and Tourism Studies
as appropriate.

Middlesex University - Dubai Campus, U.A.E
Middlesex University teaching quality was recently
rated as 'excellent' by the UK Quality Assurance
Agency and research quality was rated as being
of 'all-round national excellence' in the 2001
Research Assessment Exercise. Middlesex ranked
second in a new re-assessment of teaching quality
in all English universities. CTH students can
progress from the CTH Diplomas in Tourism Management
or Travel Agency Management on to the 2nd year
of the Middlesex University Dubai BA (Hons)
Major in International Tourism Management with
possible options in Business Studies, Marketing
or Human Resource Management. Students completing
the Advanced Diploma programmes in Tourism Management
or Hotel Management can progress on to the final
year of The Middlesex University Dubai BA (Hons)
in Hospitality Management and Tourism or BA
(Hons) or Hospitality Management.

College Birmingham
The University College Birmingham accepts successful
CTH graduates on to their second or final year
BA (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism
Business Development degree as appropriate.
Students receive their degree from the University
of Birmingham.

University of Sunderland
The 2008 Guardian University Guide ranks Tourism
at University of Sunderland as the 6th best
in the UK. The University was also ranked as
3rd best in terms of teaching satisfaction.
CTH students who have passed the Advanced Diploma
in Tourism or Hotel Management can progress
on to study the final year of the BSc (Hons)
International Tourism and Hospitality Management
awarded by the University of Sunderland, at
a number of colleges in the UK.

London South Bank University
London South Bank University, (LSBU), is focused
on vocational qualifications which improve graduates'
career prospects. As a result, LSBU is now ranked
6th in the UK for graduate starting salaries.
Students can apply for entry onto the second
or final year of the BA (Hons) Tourism and Hospitality
Programme as appropriate. CTH and LSBU have
a progression agreement that guarantees entry
to CTH students onto the second or final year
of the LSBU undergraduate Tourism and Hospitality
programme. CTH Advanced Diploma graduates with
two or more years of relevant work experience
can apply to study the LSBU MSc in International
Tourism Marketing. CTH students who would like
to apply to study at LSBU should download the
LSBU undergraduate (or postgraduate) application
form from the LSBU website, complete it and
clearly state at the top of the form that they
are a CTH graduate. Application forms should

Edith
Cowan University
Edith Cowan University is Western Australia's
second largest university with approximately
23,000 students, including in excess of 3,000
students originating from more than 80 countries.
Edith Cowan University is located in Perth,
Western Australia, a gateway to Asia. The Edith
Cowan Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management
prepares competent graduates for careers in
the hospitality, travel and tourism industries.
It has been designed to give students a solid
foundation in both disciplines in order to prepare
them for leadership in these areas. The course
includes two industry smartı units which equip
students with both industry knowledge and industry
practice. Students completing the course will
acquire the knowledge and generic skills to
launch themselves into an exciting career in
hospitality or tourism. Students who have completed
the CTH Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes
in hospitality or tourism will be granted entry
and 120 credits into the universityıs Bachelor
of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Hotel School Sydney
The Hotel School Sydney is a unique partnership
between Southern Cross University and Mulpha
Australia's hotel portfolio, (InterContinental
Sydney, Hayman Island, Sanctuary Cove, Hyatt

and Bimbadgen Estate, Hunter Valley, NSW). Southern
Cross University offers its award winning Bachelor
of Business in Hotel Management at The Hotel
School Sydney. The course focuses on hotel operational
skills and management practice in tourism and
hospitality industries. The Hotel School Sydney

qualifications that are recognised and highly

alongside their association with major hotel

over three years. CTH Diploma and Advanced Diploma
in Hotel Management or Tourism Management are
able to progress onto the second year of a Bachelor
of Business in Hotel Management with advanced
standing as appropriate.

University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)
has been rated 4th for Tourism and Hospitality
by The Guardian and the Guardian League table
for Business and Management Studies placed the
faculty as the highest modern university business
school in England and Wales. UCLAN will be pleased
to review applications from CTH graduates and
is currently working towards an articulation
agreement.

Sunway
University College
Sunway University College was formed with the
belief and understanding that higher education
is vital to the progress of the Malaysian nation.
Occupying 22 acres of prime land in Sunway city,
the MYR 120 million campus, fully equipped with
academic, hostel and sports utilities is among
the largest and most modern private institutions
in Malaysia. Sunway University College accepts
successful CTH Diploma graduates on to the first
year of their BSc. (Hons) in International Hospitality
or Tourism Management degree, (as appropriate)
and successful Advanced Diploma graduates on
to their second year BSc. (Hons) in International
Hospitality or Tourism Management degree, (as
appropriate). Students who complete the Sunway
University College Honours degree are awarded
two certificates; one by Sunway University College
and one by Lancaster University.

Glion and Les Roches Hospitality Management Schools - Switzerland
Glion and Les Roches Swiss Hospitality Management
Schools are leaders of hospitality education
provision in Europe and are recognized worldwide.
Those students who wish to pursue a degree in
hospitality and who hold the Diploma in Hotel
Management will be admitted to Year 2; students
with the Advance Diploma in Hotel Management
will be admitted to Year 3. Glion and Les Roches
degree courses last on average 4.5 years which
includes several comprehensive internships in
the hospitality industry.

HELP
University College
HELP University College founded in 1986 is the
leading institution of higher learning in Malaysia
with a firmly established international reputation
among universities, research organisations,
scholars, business and corporate leaders and
governments in Asia Pacific, Europe and North
America. It offers a wide and diverse range
of programmes at undergraduate and graduate
levels, assuming a leading role in research
and development in certain disciplines and subject
areas. Students who have completed both the
CTH Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Hospitality
Management will be offered exemptions from nine
subjects of the HELP Bachelor of Business (Hospitality
Management) (Hons) degree. The combination of
nine subjects is equivalent to one year of study
for the 3-year programme.

Tourism
University
of Northampton
Diploma in Travel Agency Management and Diploma
in Tourism Management students can progress
on to the University of Northampton HND Travel
and Tourism course. Advanced Diploma in Tourism
Management students can progress on to the final
year of their BA (Hons) Travel and Tourism Management
degree.

Gaming and Leisure
Salford
University
The University of Salford's Centre for the Study
of Gambling is the first of its kind in the
UK. It teaches at undergraduate and post-graduate
level and undertakes research in the area of
gambling studies in partnership with industry.
Students who have studied the Diploma in Hotel
and Casino Management can go on to the second
year of the BA in Gaming and Leisure at Salford
University. Students will study modules like
Gambling Ethics, Gaming Economics and Strategic
Management of the Gaming Industry, along with
more general management topics. Students will
have the opportunity for internships organised
by the university. If successful, students could
stay on to specialise in a specific area at
Masters level.
Students can also gain entry
to the second year of the Salford University
BA Hospitality/Tourism Management degree if
they have passed the Diploma in Hotel or Tourism
Management and the final year of the Salford
University BA Hospitality/Tourism Management
degree if they have passed the Advanced Diploma
in Hotel or Tourism Management.

General Management
Heriott Watt University
Students which complete the Diploma and Advanced
Diploma levels are credited with five exemptions
out of the total twelve modules for their BA
in Business Administration. Students can generally
manage six modules per academic year so a focussed
student may be able to complete seven in a calendar
year, thereby providing the student with a degree
in three years. The Heriott Watt degree is well
supported with excellent comprehensive manuals
and is by examination only - no dissertation.

Work
CTH qualification holders can be confident
they have a valuable, internationally recognised award.
Employers look for people with CTH qualifications
because they have the knowledge and skills to succeed
and contribute as supervisors and managers in the
hospitality and tourism industries. This is supported
by the Institute of Hospitality (formerly the HCIMA),
the international membership body for managers in
these industries, which endorses CTH qualifications.

Students who are studying in the UK
