Why choose Mosslands School?

What kind of school is Mosslands?

Mosslands is a successful community school which provides a fully comprehensive education for about 1100 boys aged from 11 to 19 years old and which achieves excellent outcomes for all of our learners. We have a mixed Sixth Form which offers a wide range of academic and vocational provision and is carefully matched to the needs and aspirations of our students. Progression figures into higher and further education and into successful employment are amongst the highest in the North West.

We are an innovative school and became the first school in the region to be recognised as a STE@M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) centre of excellence. This has seen us build excellent links with universities and compete successfully on a national level in STEM related competitions. We also reached the national final of the schools debating competition and features in the television series “The kings and Queens of Speech”, run a successful chess club and a very broad and successful range of sports clubs that regularly reach local and regional finals.

Mosslands is highly regarded for its provision for pupils with special educational needs. Ofsted 2016 stated that …

“The achievement of pupils who have special education needs or disability is good. Strong leadership and good support from additional staff have ensured that these pupils make good progress”. (Ofsted 2016)
The school has a warm and caring ethos and we foster a sense of ambition within our pupils. This again was identified as a strength of the school by Ofsted inspectors who report that …

“Relationships are strong. Staff are ambitious for their pupils and determined in their aim to get the best for each one academically and personally” (Ofsted 2016)

Our school ethos is built upon the core values; “Care, Commitment and Challenge”. We provide a caring, well-disciplined and orderly environment in which pupils are able to learn and thrive. We look for a shared commitment by pupils, staff and parents to value their learning. We challenge all of our pupils to achieve high academic and behavioural standards.
