CTH attends conference in South Africa for aspiring chefs

From October 8th-10th, the SA Chefs annual InfoChef event took place in Gauteng, South Africa. Learn more about our time spent connecting with culinary enthusiasts, chefs, and industry professionals during the event.
The InfoChef event, spanning two days, featured an impressive array of activities, bringing together high school students, culinary students, senior chefs, and industry leaders.
The vibrant event was a celebration of culinary artistry, where the next generation of chefs could gain exposure, enhance their skills, and connect with influential figures in the hospitality industry.
Among the event’s standout participants was CTH Regional Manager for Southern Africa, Kobus Thiart. Reflecting on his experience, Kobus Thiart shared:
In early October, I had the privilege of attending the SA Chefs Annual InfoChef Event in Gauteng. The exciting atmosphere brought together chefs and food lovers, creating memorable networking opportunities. A highlight was the event’s dedication to supporting school graduates, giving them a chance to gain exposure and career insights in becoming a chef - not just in South Africa but globally
One of the most anticipated moments of the event was the SA Chef of the Year 2024 Competition, where South Africa’s top chefs battled it out for the prestigious title. This intense and thrilling competition provided attendees with a front-row seat to South African culinary excellence!
A standout feature of this year’s InfoChef Gauteng was the focus on indigenous foods and nutrition. Many chefs took the stage to showcase innovative ways of incorporating South Africa’s indigenous ingredients into nutritious, flavourful dishes. The emphasis on sustainability and healthy cooking practices was evident throughout the event, demonstrating how local ingredients can be both delicious and beneficial to the environment.
For CTH, attending and participating in this prestigious event highlighted our ongoing commitment to supporting the development of the next generation of chefs in SA. Through our CTH Centres and industry partnerships, we aim to continue to have a longstanding presence in South Africa.
